Thank you for joining me again these evening for these nightly podcasts. I perform these podcasts in the hopes that you can better educate yourself on these topics so that should a time come you can make a better informed decision about your health care. I am doctor Harrison Campbell of Restoration Health a premier sugar land chiropractors office. Previously we discussed the two chiropractic schools in Texas and which school I ended up attending. Today we will dive more in depth into the practical aspect of chiropractic schooling.

After two years of chiropractic school sugar land chiropractors are provided the opportunity for practical development of their skills. This is where the shift from classrooms and theocreicals and books becomes real world actual patients. There is no beating around the bush here. This is where the students find out if they have what it takes to be a doctor of chiropractic in the future. Classrooms and books are good. They build foundations and help prepare as best they can, but until real world experience happens the growth in classrooms will be limited.

The first patients chiropractic students are allowed to see under their treating doctor are fellow students. This is the first taste of what treating an actual patient will feel like and it is just the beginning. After a trimmest of dealing with the typical ailments of students should the student have finished the requirements they will progress to seeing actual patients. Now these patients are still seen under the preview of the treating doctor overseeing the student, but this is the first time the student is developing treatment plans, creating exercise regimens, and adjusting a person who has chosen to come to the clinic and pay for services rendered.

It is a big step and a necessary one for those student to develop into the sugar land chiropractors they will be in the future. It is my opinion that the students who succeed in this practical application are the same students who have succeeded in the classroom the prior two years. The reason for this is due to the drive. Chiropractic school is a long grueling process which weeds people out fairly quickly. It is easy to fall prey to the thinking of I only need a certain number of points to pass this test or I need to do y on this test to move on from this class. This thinking is what will prevent a student from succeeding in the practical portion of their education.

This is due to that mindset following them into the clinic. A student who only studied to get the grade the year before is liable to only perform a treatment because that is what treatment others are performing. Each treatment plan should be tailored for the patient and their area of complaint. Can you image sugar land chiropractors only performing a treatment on you because they know another chiropractor does that treatment? A treatment plan is not built because someone else did this particular therapy yesterday, it is built because this is what is required to get this particular patient better.

The most important mindset sugar land chiropractor can have when at school or attending continuing education is that I need to learn all I can so I can help as many people in the future with this knowledge. When my colleagues and I studied while we were in school, we had a saying or motto if you will. I want to learn x, which happened to be whatever the class was on that day, not to pass a test or pass a class but because in the future I will have a patient who will need me as a doctor of chiropractic to know this in order to help them. This is the mindset which is needed to succeed in the classroom and it is this same mindset which is needed I in the practical years of chiropractic school.

For sugar land chiropractors with this mindset they succeeded in the practical areas of chiropractic schooling because they understood what the practical clinical experience was. IT was a controlled environment with a treating doctor shadowing what you were doing. This doctor would assess your treatment plans, they would provide tips and tricks from their real world experience and guide the student into being a great doctor I in the future. The students who viewed the classroom as nothing more than I need x to pass this or that class were the same students who viewed the practical clinical experience as a place where they needed to perform x number of treatments to graduate. The practical clinical experience was much more than performing a certain number of adjustments or treating this many patients.

Now the point of this podcast is not about how people learn or if tests are an accurate way of measuring intelligence. The point of this information on the practical years of chiropractic school were to get a glimpse of what mindset is required to succeed. For sugar land chiropractors who thrived in the practical clinical experience, they learned this lesson and learned it well.

The entire point of chiropractic school is prepare you for a day when you have a patient in front of you who came to you for help. They chose to come to you because you have the knowledge, the experience, and the training required to get them better. They came to you because you did not go to chiropractic school with the intention of being mediocre.
