Thank you for joining me again this evening for our nightly podcasts. I perform these podcasts in the hopes that you will be able to education yourself on the topics discussed so you can make better informed medical decisions regarding your health in the future. I am doctor Harrison Campbell of Restoration Health a premier sugar land chiropractors office. Previously we discussed the services provided at Restoration Health. We unfortunately did not cover all the services we can provide due to time constraints. Tonight we will be covering spinal decompression in more detail along with even more services which we can provide.

We left off last time discussion spinal decompression being utilized for facet joints and disc herniations. If you recall the facet joints are the small joints throughout the spinal column and allow us to have the range of motion that we do. As sugar land chiropractors know these small facet joints can create extremely painful problems. Facet joints which are inflamed can create a broad base of pain with specific motions that in some patients is the most painful thing they have felt. I have had car accident patient who have suffered micro fractures to these facet joints. Now while these micro fractures do not often require surgery, they are extremely painful and the therapy performed needs to be done properly so we can return you to health as quickly as possible.

Additionally spinal decompression helps a great deal with intervertebral disc herniations. This therapy as sugar land chiropractors know reduces pressure on the disc and creates a vacuum in the disc to help the disc heal. We have previously discussed intervertebral disc anatomy in detail but we will briefly review that here. A disc has two components. The outer shell is a tough fibrous material and it is this component which is injured in a disc herniation. The inner core is a jelly like material which is the shock absorption component of the disc. The core material pushes out against the shell and find the week spot creating a bulge. This is why disc herniations are often called a disc bulge.

The spinal decompression used by sugar land chiropractors creates that negative vacuum which pulls the inner core back together reducing the pressure on the outer shell. By reducing the pressure on the outer shell we allow the tough fibrous tissue to repair in a normalized form helping to speed recovery and reduce potential exacerbations of the injury. Now this therapy is performed in conjunction with the active care to ensure the patients has the tools needed to recover from this injury. Never forget that motion heals the body, thus active care is a key component of any treatment plan at Restoration Health.

Along side decompression we also use manual therapy or soft tissue work to help the body heal. The soft tissue work is used to help the healing fibers or scar tissue to be aligned properly during the healing process. Additionally this soft tissue work can be done to help reduce muscle spasms, elongate tight muscles, and break down scar tissue which is not advantageous to the healing process. A few sugar land chiropractors perform this therapy, but at Restoration Health we understand the important nature of this therapy and try to incorporate the benefits as often as possible with patients.

There are several forms of soft tissue work ranging from using just the hands to utilizing specialized tools. Instrument assisted soft tissue work is when the tools are used during the therapy. At Restoration Health we utilize this type of therapy to help when ligaments are injured or a surgery has been performed. The reason for this is due to the tools allowing the sugar land chiropractors at Restoration Health the ability to realign the healing fibers in the proper alignment. By doing this we again speed up the recovery process and ensure a stronger tissue at the end of the recovery process.

Soft tissue therapy performed with the hands is often simply termed manual therapy as used before. This type of therapy is used for a wide array of reasons. At Restoration Health a premier sugar land chiropractors office we used this type of therapy on tight muscles or muscle spasms to help relax the muscle and help restore the proper or full range of motion. Pressure points are common sources of pain and need to be removed to help a muscle heal properly.

Additionally this manual therapy can be used to help reduce the patients pain levels. Most people would agree that a massage feels great. They may not understand nor care of the medical benefits but all will say that a massage when done properly is a relaxing experience. Manual therapy can be done is a massage like fashion allowing a patient to decrease their stress levels or simply quote unquote feel better.
