Thank you for joining me again this evening for our nightly podcasts. I perform these podcasts in the hopes that you will be able to education yourself on the topics discussed so you can make better informed medical decisions regarding your health in the future. I am doctor Harrison Campbell of Restoration Health a premier sugar land chiropractors office. Previously we discussed antibiotics and the roll how both doctors and patients can be more responsible with them in the future. This will allow us to prevent the rise of more antibiotic bacteria as we move forward. Tonight, we will start a discussion on sleep. We have previously talked about sleep before but now is a good time to revisit the topic.

Most people including sugar land chiropractors can give the basic response of sleep is important when asked whether we need enough sleep. We are raised with a basic understanding of needing to sleep but many do not know why. The concept that sleep is needed to help the body repair is what drives our understanding of the importance for sleep. When we sleep our body can recover from the previous traumas is suffered throughout the day. This is especially important for when we work out or have pushed ourselves physically the day before.

Every time we work out we undergo micro traumas due to the physiology of our bodies in response to the physical exertion. Muscle fibers tear and out bodies heal them so they can hypertrophy which gives the desired larger muscle in most people. The chemical stress of the day to day functions is also something which needs to repaired. With their extension education in human physiology sugar land chiropractors know the chemical or more accurately the oxidative stress which the body undergoes.

People often speak of the benefits of anti oxidants in our nutrition. They rarely understand the reasons for this however. The term oxidative refers to oxygen generating free radicals in the body. This is the chemical stress we previously talked about. For a being created to require oxygen the damage oxygen can have on our body is extreme. This is why you needs the berries and the nutrients called anti oxidants to help reduce the impact free radical oxygen has on our body. For the damage which is done to the body from the free radical oxygen sleep will help us repair this damage and maintain a good healthy lifestyle.

As sugar land chiropractors progress to neuroanatomy in their education the importance of sleep moves from what people consider the physical body to the mental. This topic still stems from a physical aspect, however. The brain is still a physical thing. The brain acts in respects to a computer as the analogy goes, but for all we know of the brain there is so much more which remains hidden. The neurons which form our brain are as stated neurons. They do feel fatigue, they do wear down, and they do ultimately fail.

Most people who have stayed up later than they should or had to get up earlier than they intended. Yes, even the college students who have pulled the all nightery to study can attest to neurons being fatigues. Even sugar land chiropractors understand neuron fatigue from the constant study and limited sleep. The haze or fog who feel when trying to work through a problem while tired. The dead feeling or simply being unable to come up with the simple answer because you are quote unquote not yet awake or you have not had your first cup of coffee.

This feeling is a fatigue from the neurons not firing as quickly as you ae accustomed too. These fatigues neurons also go beyond simply memory or quick thinking. The sluggish feeling with your body when extremely tired, the decrease in reflexes, the loss of coordination. All of these symptoms are from the control center of the brain responsible for that particular area faltering and not functioning up to the normal standard.

I remember having stayed up late studying for a test and attending class the next day while on my way to being one of the best sugar land chiropractors in the area. I went into a neuroanatomy lesson feeling dead to the world and struggling to focus. As it would happen the lesson for the day was on sleep depravation and the affects this has for the brain. You can probable guess at how well the class went with my concentration level being next to nothing. Immediately following that class I went home and went to sleep and I have tried my best ever since to ensure I get adequate rest.

To end our discussion I figured I would bring up a newer research article in regards to this topic. I believe it is important for all sugar land chiropractors to stay abreast of the newest research in the medical fields. Any this particular article was in relation to improper or inadequate sleep affecting the brain. This study was doing research looking for the plaques which are associated with the Alzheimer’s disease process in the brain and found them in brains which were not receiving the adequate hours of sleep needed. Now this is not to say that sleep depravation will lead to Alzheimer’s disease. I am not necessarily surprised to see a correlation between something like this. Again there is so much we do not know about the brain. It is not a far reach in order for me to see that not receiving enough sleep would negatively impact the short memory of the brain on a long term scale.
