Thank you for joining me again this evening for our nightly podcast. I am Dr. Harrison Campbell a chiropractor at Restoration Health a premier sugar land chiropractor office. In tonightís podcast we will be discussing osteoarthritis.
And itís heart eyes arthritis is where in tear on the body. There are many different types of arthritis but I stated previously we were discussing osteoarthritis tonight. As many sugar land chiropractors will tell you osteoarthritis is when the cartilage in the joint where is out can you get bone on bone joint surfaces. This process takes years to occur and pain will gradually increase as more and more bone on bone surface is exposed in the joint.

Must come and joint for osteoarthritis to be discussed is typically in the knees. This is due to the weight bearing nature of the knees in the continuous strain and pressure they undergo during our daily lives. There are many factors which can increase the likelihood in the rate of osteoarthritis generation in the knees and we will discuss there shortly. Often times you will see people having knee replacement due to osteoarthritis in their knees and we will discuss this procedure as well. As all sugar land chiropractors will tell you age is the number one factor for osteoarthritis in the knees. This is due to the fact that arthritis is an aging process thus as we get older aging process is take hold. This is the most common osteoarthritis to be seen in the knees.
Another factor which can contribute asked you arthritis in the knees is injury. There are four primary ligaments in the knee is there any collateral ligaments the medial and lateral and there are the cruciate ligament the anterior and posterior. Injuries to these ligaments along with injuries to the meniscus in the knee will create abnormal wearing patterns in the knee thus increasing the rate in there for speeding up the process of asked you arthritis in the knees. Currently in Restoration Health at Premier sugar land chiropractors office I have a patient who due to chronic tearing of their ACL or anterior cruciate ligament they have moderate osteoarthritis development in their knee at this time. They are of middle-age so not old enough to be classified in the age group of eight degenerative process being normalized. This tearing of the anterior cruciate ligament repeatedly or multiple times his allowing excessive motion to occur in this knee and the success of motion has altered the normal biomechanics of the knee. This altered and biomechanics in the knee creates M normal wear and tear patterns in the knee affecting the normal rate at which the articular Cartlidge will wear and tear in the knee. This is why she is demonstrating moderate osteoarthritis in this knee even though she is of moderate age and nowhere near close enough to be considered in the prime age range for osteoarthritis.

Yet another factor which can contribute to osteoarthritis is abnormal biomechanics in the knee. This was touched upon briefly with the patient who has an ACL tear but altered biomechanics is not only due to damage ligaments. I have had patients in the past who had alter biomechanics due to muscle and balances due to congenital defects or problems when they were born altering how a joint is supposed to be moving and there are many other factors which can contribute to this as well. For muscle and balances and Restoration Health we can create an exercise routine which can correct these and balances and try and restore normal biomechanical function to the joint. Unfortunately for the congenital problems typically if there is something that can be done it is surgical in nature.

Asked for surgeries most sugar land chiropractors will agree with me when I say it is best to wait as long as possible for any replacements due to osteoarthritis. This is due to the fact that the prosthesis or the equipment which they placed in the knee to act instead of your normal knee joint will wear and tear just like your natural knee will. However unlike the natural knee which the body will attempt to repair as best it can there is no repairing an artificial knee. So once the damage is done the damage is done and this artificial knee must be replaced surgically.
As for the surgeries for artificial knee replacement they have progressed when compared to Bridget on the replacements. In the past when they would do any replacement they would remove the cruciate ligament in the process. And I stated before without the cruciate ligament you have abnormal bio mechanics in the knee this intern created excessive wear and tear on these new joints or I should say these artificial knee joints thereby reducing the lifespan of this artificial knee. The newer procedures try to spare the cruciate ligament in the knee which will limit they altered by mechanics or reduce the amount of the altar biomechanics in this artificial knee there by prolonging the lifespan of this artificial knee. It is in my opinion and all sugar land chiropractors will agree with me on this is that if you have to have an artificial knee replacement letís wait as long as possible for the procedure is done so that way you limit the chances of having to have a second knee replacement performed.

The rehab process after an artificial knee replacement begins during the surgery when you were still under the effects of anesthesia. They will manipulate the knee joint or move the knee joint immediately after the surgery to stimulate the healing process and start the road to recovery. This does not mean that the path is easy. Rehabilitation from knee replacement is painful thereís no point in denying this and if you are not willing to put in the effort and the outcomes of the knee replacement and seven cases can be worse than your knees were prior to the knee reply. Therefore if you were looking for Sugar land chiropractors to rehabilitate your knee post knee replacement surgery look no further than Restoration Health. If you contact us we have the experience in the know how to rehabilitate your knee quickly and effectively so that way you can go back to doing the activities that you want to do with your new artificial knees that you could not do with it when your knees affected by asked you arthritis.
